Books in Your Jammies Webinar

Thought I'd get this discusssion started this morning when the ideas are fresh in my mind.  Judy and I will keep track of responses and hone the ideas for our next meeting.  I'm thinking a webinar format from 7:00AM until 8:30AM, with up to 20 minutes to present the key ideas from the book, 20 minutes for an experienced coach to reflect on the practical implications of the ideas for their practice, and 40 minutes for questions, comments, and dialogue.  There would be 5 minutes at the beginning for an brief introduction and 5 minutes at the end for announcements of future events.  We could arrange for sponsors and give them a 2 minute slot at the beginning and a 2 minute slot at the end to extol the benefits of their services within those 5 minute windows.  This sponsorhsip would be cash - say $250 per event.

We could ask for suggestions for books from our members.  I think we should stick to books that are directly related to some aspect of coaching.

We could also advertise this service more widely, throughout the international ICF networks - free to members of the Vancouver chapter and $20 for others.  Might become a bit of a money maker.

Open to ideas from the board for initial books to schedule.  One that I'd like to do is Marshall Goldsmith's What Got You Here Won't Get You There.  I've uploaded an executive summary to the file cabinet.

'Books in Your Jammies' title may be a bit too cute, but coaches tend to have a sense of humour.  We could just use something like 'Coaching Books for Breakfast'.

Anyhow, there's some initial thoughts to get us going.  Looking forward to the conversations.

Cheers,

Brian

Hi Brian

Great ideas. I really love the sponsorship opportunity - and I think we should be able to cross-market to other local groups like BCODN or HRMA..

I especially like the no travel, no parking, no hassle format. It makes it easier for us to market and launch - we don't have any costs other than the webinar platform fees. I've attended both the Tekara Books for Breakfast and the Vantage Point (formerly known as Volunteer Vancouver) sessions and this seems like a good way for us to get started with a slightly different approach. I'm thinking that perhaps the first few times we should have a facilitator who has some questions prepared to make sure we 'fill in' the 40 minutes of Q&A, dialogue and interaction.

Marshall's book is a great book - those who have read it know there's lots of layers and lots of people will have heard about it and will be curious to hear more. I have a long list of books I can add as potentials...

Thanks for getting the ball rolling.

Karole
