« Return to GENERAL DISCUSSIONOpportunity to learn about the Newfield model of coaching
Greetings all,
I've recently become a student in the Newfield Ontological Coaching school. As part of my program requirements I must host, and facilitate five 5 learning conversations with 6-10 community members between now and mid-March.
Would you like to join me? I need 6 people to say yes before December 20th!!!
This is a unique opportunity to learn about, actively explore and experience the Newfield model, in theory and action, without paying the fees!
Tentative Dates:
TUESDAY nights (Five sessions between Dec 13 and March 15th)
Two hours long (with potential to extend to 2.5 hrs if there is interest)
Start time between 6:00pm and 7:30 pm (start time is open to negotations)
Once I have a total of 8interested people, we will confirm dates and times, and location (I may need to find an alternate location if we expand beyond the space in my West End home)
What's it about?
The point of the learning conversations is to introduce you to the Newfield model and methods and then explore them together in an informal group setting. My job is to organize and present the material to others in a way that is engaging and experiential while also receiving feedback from you on how I did. Sharing the material with you helps me learn the material myself, in a more embodied, practiced way.
The Newfield approach to learning: an introduction
To pique your interest in the Newfield coaching model, check out this very short but intriguing video of Julio Olalla, the Newfield founder discussing his approach to learning.
Julio talks about the philosophical foundation of the program in his book “ From Knowledge to Wisdom:Essays on the Crisis in Contemporary Learning”. This reflects and some of this material will be covered in the learning conversations, shared with you in my own words.
What is the Newfield model of coaching about?
This model integrates and looks at how our thoughts, feelings and body work together. . and how, with more awareness of these three elements and how they interact, we can more consciously create ( they use the word "generate") a reality and experience of our choosing. Much of the material looks at distinctions of language, mood, emotion, and embodiment (how our body is when we are in certain moods or are telling certain "stories"). I think you will find the material useful and applicable, whether you want it for personal growth or as a tool in your coaching practice. I don't want to say too much about the methods because part of the goal of these learning conversations is for me to practice presenting this material to you and then get feedback from you on how I did!
What are the expectations if I decide to pursue this?
I expect you to:
-
Attend all five sessions in person (I need this for my own program requirement)
-
Enter the experience as an open and committed learner (bring beginner's mind)
-
Engage in the material as you feel called
-
Provide written feedback on each session for my program requirements and for my learning
-
*Because my space for hosting is limited, I would prefer that only seriously interested participants respond.
You can expect me to:
-
Offer some healthy snacks at the meeting ( they will start between 6 pm and 7:30 pm depending on the schedule of the participants)
-
Deliver the material in an engaging, participatory way
-
Share ideas and practices from week to week in a way that builds on the previous week's material
-
Include somatic exercises as part of the learning (e.g start each session with a centering practice)
-
invite you to take a practice, idea or question to explore or journal about between learning coversations. This is of course optional, allowing you to take the material as deeply as you like
-
Be informal, fun-loving and playful with the material
-
Be open to your feedback on how to improve the learning conversations as we go (I believe in formative evaluation) with an eye to continuous improvement
A little about me:
I have a Masters in social work and social policy and spent the last twenty years focused on health and wellness (ten years as a community developer at Vancouver Coastal Health).
I have been offering life coaching since 2010 and am planning to have ICF certification by December 2012.
I have studied CTI fundamentals, Marlena Fields's body-centred coaching program and have been lucky to participate in Lori-Anne Demers' personal growth “core alignment” program (see http://www.lademers.com/CACTraining/coreAlignmentCoachTraining.ht) .
I am a bodyworker, energy healer and a breath coach! I am very passionate about somatics and embodiment and it has been a dream of mine to be a Newfield student because of the somatic component of their program.
Next Steps: So what do I do if I'm interested?
-
Send me an e-mail stating your interest and availability for Tues nights for December to March 15th.
-
Briefly tell me if you are aware of the Newfield school (or not) and what you hope to get out of this opportunity.
-
I will get back to you with the status of numbers and availability.
-
I have NO IDEA how many people will respond but if I get swarmed with requests! ( that would be fun!) I''ll post an update on the ICF site by Dec 20th to let you know where things are at.
Thanks so much!
